On Sunday, March 30th, Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church will celebrate a Harambee Mass – meaning, pull together – honoring our long history, culture and traditions as Black Catholics. There is no tradition or history greater than ours, collectively or individually!
As the only Black Catholic congregation in Charlotte, Our Lady of Consolation is rich in Spirit, culture and heritage. Our congregants represent, not only the children of the enslaved – but first and second generational children of the African Continent!
This Harambee celebration will shine a light on the history and deep connection between Liberia and Black Americans! Members of the Liberian community will share history, culture and traditions that, when realized, bring our communities closer and make our bond, stronger.
Please join us for the celebration of the Mass and for a cultural conversation afterward about the religious and cultural history of Liberia and the ties that bind us!
Mass will begin promptly at 11 AM and the conversation will begin immediately afterward.
