Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time
Harambee!!!
He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8)
Harambee! Welcome! On this twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time…we have much to be thankful for and much work yet to do! The scripture today speaks of our responsibility to be obedient to God’s commandments…and accountable for what we do! God, the readings say, has given us life and freedom…and, with those gifts comes responsibility…to be kind to each other, to share with those who have less than we, to speak for those that cannot speak for themselves…to give the very best that we have to the Body of Christ without expectation of reward or recognition, but because it is good and right.
So, for what gifts are we grateful, family?
A faith community like no other in the Diocese of Charlotte.
A worship tradition that calls upon the gifts of the Ancestors that came before us.
A legacy of education and evangelization that spans generations and reaches across religious, economic and geographic lines.
An edifice that requires our resources, monetary and physical, to continue to stand, and
Children, who watch to see if what we say is what we do
Jesus’ words are very clear in today’s Gospel. He says God is not interested in lip service…but in what we
give from our hearts….our actions as brothers and sisters in Christ. Let us come together today…in our hearts, in our minds and within our spirit with renewed gratitude for all we’ve been given…understanding that “[of] everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more”.
As the drums remind us of our enduring link to the ancestors…from ancient times to those who fought for this church! Let’s be renewed! Let’s rejoice and be glad…then roll up our sleeves…we’ve got work to do!!! Ashe! Ashe! Ashe!
