The
Youth Writing Event is designed to help our children and parents explore the two basic responses to human need found in Catholic Social Teaching; charitable works and social justice. We hope to encourage the youth to find ways to put their faith into action, demonstrating both forms of Catholic Social Teaching. Sample essay topics are listed below.
Allessays will be due by Sunday Feb. 21, 2016. There will be a
ceremony and lite lunch provided for participants and their families Sunday Feb. 28, 2016

What you can do to stop bullying? 4 Ways you can stop bullying at school. (Grades 6-8)
What steps can you take to prevent the adversarial relationship between minority youth and law enforcement? (Grades 9-10)
Describe the youth immigration detention and unaccompanied minor problem in the United States. Discuss main causes and two solutions. What are some of the dangers these children face. What would you do if you were President Obama? What can you and your families do to help? (Grades 11-12), or
Describe two important environmental justice issues Pope Frances has brought to our attention. What action do you recommend to solve these issues?
What key health issues are caused by pollution and what solutions are scientists working on to resolve these issues?
What can you do to implement solutions at home to reduce health risks related to pollution? What Does Pope Frances recommend families do to reduce pollution in our environment? (Grades 11-12)
